A Charter Amendment on County Executive Term Limits

PREAMBLE:
To prohibit a County Executive who has served more than 30 days in each of two consecutive terms from seeking re-election for one full term.
BY VIRTUE OF THE COUNTY CHARTER OF STAPLETON COUNTY THE COUNCIL HEREBY ESTABLISHES THAT:
SECTION 1:

SECTION 2:
Section 1 B) of the County Charter currently states: “The County Executive shall serve for a term not to exceed four (4) months. The County Executive shall be permitted to serve for a total of two consecutive (2) terms. After having served for two consecutive terms, the County Executive shall be restricted from being elected into the office of the County Executive for one (1) full gap term. Any County Executive who has served for a total of three (3) terms prior to the enactment of this charter shall be restricted from being elected into the office of the County Executive for one full term following the ratification of this County Charter. The requirements to take a gap term shall only apply to individuals who serve two terms consecutively, individuals who divide their terms by a gap term shall not be required to take a gap term upon reaching two cumulative terms.”
SECTION 3:

SECTION 4:
Upon passage of the Stapleton County Council and signature by the County Executive, this bill shall be effective as County law immediately.
